Bearded Dragon Pets - Not Just A Lizard, But Part Of The Family

Bearded Dragon pets are awesome! My 12 year old son had his heart set on a Bearded Dragon lizard for a long time. I knew these reptiles were desert creatures and we would need to give them the right environment to survive so we began researching. I discovered that a lot of people’s Bearded Dragon pets were dying because people were unaware of very simple things that are crucial to Bearded Dragons.

We talked to a lot of pet shops and were given different information each time. I searched online and realised it was going to be very time consuming as the information was scattered all over the internet.

Determined to find the right answers we continued on and eventually compiled a pretty comprehensive list of lizard care and requirements.

Bearded Dragon care is important if you want a healthy beardie. Everything from food, lighting, enclosures and even nutrients are all to be considered for the health of your Bearded Dragon.

My son did purchase his Bearded Dragon (Pogona Vitticeps) which he named Solo. That was 2 years ago now and I’m really glad that we learned as much as we could before we committed ourselves to caring for a reptile. Our Bearded Dragon pet, Solo has become a much loved part of the family. I never realised how much personality a Bearded Dragon is capable of.

Sometimes we hand feed him a bit of fruit or purple lettuce (which seems to be his favourite). If he has had enough he just closes his eyes. We keep holding the food in front of him as he slowly just opens his eyes, barely looking through his lids, but if we still have that food in front of him he firmly closes his eyes again. We always laugh because it’s his way of telling us, “No thanks, I’ve had enough”.

We have found our Bearded Dragon pet to be entertaining and fascinating. When people come to visit they always ask how Solo is and go and have a look at him. We have his vivarium in a room where our kids have their entertainment such as computer and tv etc. He loves being part of everything and watching what’s going on. We’ve noticed how curious Bearded Dragons are, they don’t miss a trick.

I hope what you find on this website will be helpful in your decision to get your own Bearded Dragon pets. We have found them to be an easy and fun pet to own. At the start it is a little bit of an expense to get the right setup for your Bearded Dragon but after that they are relatively cheap.

If you’re serious about Bearded Dragons then you might like to join a Bearded Dragon Discussion Forum or be a part of the United States Association Of Reptile Keepers. There are many reptile forums that Beardie owners can take part in.

Our Bearded Dragon, Solo, is a girl and is used to being held and handled and seems really happy but my son thinks it’s time we get her a mate. The next decision will be whether we decide to breed her and deal with babies and all that goes along with that. Breeding Bearded Dragons is a little more complicated than just owning one.

So while we are contemplating getting yet another Bearded Dragon we hope you find all the information we have gathered helpful to enjoy your own Bearded Dragon pets.
